The loss of Roger (Syd) Barrett today has taken a piece of my heart away. There will never be another soul like his.

Rest in Peace dear Roger, and thanks for everything.

"My lovably ordinary brother Syd" is an interview with Rosemary Barrett (her first interview in 30 years) she talks about how Roger lived his life simply but was loved by many around him.

This Mortal Coil covers Late Night, one of my favorite Barrett songs. Not quite as good as the original, but still nice and new to me.

1 Giant Leap (for mankind, one small step for man)

1 Giant Leap is one of my favorite bands/musical projects over the last couple years. It is two guys (with previous industry accomplishments) who have had the privilege of traveling the world and recording artists from all over, in a collaboration effort. It is some of the best music I've heard in a long time. The Palm Pictures site has all of the songs available but doesn't list the songs in the correct order, the correct order is available here.

I have already seen the DVD for the current 1 Giant Leap project that was inspiring, and here is a sneak preview of what they have planned for the next album: (it's a 34mb QT file) 1 Giant Leap part 2 the password is: trailer1. I have a big heart for synths and the sounds they make and it probably stems from playing with a micromoog as a small child. So, here a few synth links to enjoy.

When I think of how to describe the "synth sound", I would probably say the Dr. Who theme song is a good example, but I recently found out, that it contains no synth at all. Whoops! After reading about how the original theme song was made without synths, I have even more respect for this fantastic piece of music.

Ever heard of a Novachord? It turns out there were synths made in 1937 by Hammond Organ! Check out the Novachord Restoration Project where you can see and hear the magnificent machine from now and in the past.

Here's a scanned history (1976-78) of an electronic music magazine: Synapse there's interviews with Devo, Zappa, Eno, Moog, Hillage, plus lots more goodies...

For some more fun, here's a sales album for the moog: The Sound of the Moog (it takes a while to load but is a good listen).

All I can say is WOW! These films are just amazing. My favorite is

Les Bizguiz . It has something to do with animated funky sound molecules.
